OpenAI Releases Agentic Model GPT-5.5

OpenAI dropped GPT-5.5 on April 24, and people noticed right away. This new model isn’t just a chatbot anymore—GPT-5.5 can plan, execute, and handle complex, multi-step real-world tasks by itself. It’s way stronger at software development, pulling together research, crunching numbers, and even working solo with outside digital tools. In tests like TerminalBench 2.0 and ExpertSWE, GPT-5.5 crushed it. It dove into huge software repositories, edited multiple files, and didn’t need anyone hovering over its shoulder.

What really stands out? GPT-5.5 stays fast, even though it processes fewer tokens than earlier models. Engineers managed to pack more brains into it, so now it can spot issues early and fix them without waiting for users to tell it what to do. That’s a big jump—from just generating text, to actually running digital workflows for hours straight.

Security has become a priority. OpenAI beefed up red-teaming, which basically means unleashing simulated cyberattacks to root out weak points, especially around bio-threats and infrastructure hacks. They also launched Trusted Access for Cyber, a secure platform for vetted security experts, making sure only trusted professionals get the tools for defense.

Right now, GPT-5.5 is available for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise accounts, but usage has limits depending on your tier.
