The 2026 International Academicians Hong Kong Forum took place on April 14, 2026. Scientists, university administrators, and policymakers examined how artificial intelligence directly transforms healthcare, education, and scientific research.
The International Alliance of Academicians and the Hong Kong Association of Overseas-Returned Scholars jointly organized the event. This academic gathering formed a core component of the Business of Innovation and Technology Week 2026.
Discussions targeted AI-driven innovation in aging, chronic disease management, and higher education. The forum attracted more than 300 participants, including recipients of the Fields Medal, an international award recognizing outstanding mathematical achievement, and Nobel Laureates.
Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee highlighted the city’s operational role as a global research hub linking mainland China with the international scientific community. The administration cited strong universities, open research policies, and robust intellectual property protections as primary regional advantages.
Keynote presentations underscored the critical necessity of foundational sciences and interdisciplinary research. Fields Medalist Shing-Tung Yau emphasized mathematics as the structural backbone for all modern technological progress.
Nobel Laureate Arieh Warshel demonstrated how combining AI with physics-based simulations, computational models calculating atomic interactions, directly advances biomedical research. Panel discussions involved leaders from all eight of Hong Kong’s public universities.
These academic administrators explored how generative AI, neural models capable of creating novel data outputs, actively alters teaching methodologies, research collaboration, and talent development. The panels simultaneously addressed essential questions regarding algorithmic governance, academic quality, and responsible technology utilization.
